Gold prices in Bangladesh fell further on Sunday, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) reducing the price of 22-carat gold by Tk3,325 per bhori to Tk2,20,857, including VAT, effective from 10am. Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold costs Tk2,10,943 per bhori, 18-carat gold Tk1,81,200, and traditional-method gold Tk1,48,016. Silver prices were unchanged.
The cut extends a volatile month. BAJUS reduced prices on 13, 22, 23 and 25 October, with the cumulative reduction in 22-carat gold over those four rounds reaching Tk10,439 a bhori. In total, the association has revised gold prices 126 times so far in 2026 — 60 increases, 65 decreases and one VAT-related adjustment, against 93 revisions in the whole of 2025.
Why the price moves so often
Domestic gold prices track the international price of pure gold, converted into taka, plus VAT and the local market structure. When the international price falls, BAJUS follows — sometimes within days. That frequency is a warning in itself: gold is not a stable store of value from week to week, even if it feels familiar. Buyers also pay more than the headline rate: a 5 per cent VAT on ornaments and a minimum making charge of Tk3,500 per bhori apply on top of the metal price.
- Headline price (22k, 25 Oct): Tk2,20,857 per bhori, including VAT.
- October cuts: four rounds, Tk10,439 cumulative for 22k.
- Extra costs: VAT plus making charges, which do not come back on resale at full value.
- Jewellery for wearing should not be counted as an investment at its full purchase price.
A lower gold price is not a bargain by itself. It is a lower price for an asset that pays no income and can fall again next week.
A calmer way to think about gold
For households that want gold, the disciplined approach is to decide in advance what share of savings it should be, buy in small amounts rather than on a price call, and keep purchase records and hallmark details. Gold can diversify a portfolio and it is liquid. It is not, however, a substitute for an emergency fund, a pension contribution, or a diversified investment plan — and a month of cuts does not change that.
